Thanks to the commutative property of multiplication, we can use the same story and picture we used for 8 x 9 = 72 for 9 x 8 = 72.

Step 1

Put your hands on the table in front of you.
Step 2
Your fingers represent the numbers 1 through 10.
Step 3

 - Each finger to the left of the curled finger represents 10.
   - Say 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70
 - Each finger to the right of the curled finger represents one. 
   - Count 1, 2.  (Or 71, 72
 - 8 x 9 = 72

Practice
